About Us

Stephen Brown has been training race horses with great success for over 25 years.

In his home town of Darwin, Stephen has won 7 trainers premierships, and despite now being based primarily in Melbourne still sits 2nd on the current season’s premiership table with a strike rate nudging 20%.

In the 2000’s Stephen spent 4 years in Macau, achieving group 1 success in the Macau Derby and winning numerous other feature races.

After many years of successfully travelling horses south to win races all around Australia, in 2013 Stephen made the decision to relocate to Melbourne and now has 30 boxes at Flemington racecourse. His astute purchasing and placement of tried racehorses is a key plank in the stable's success since venturing south.

Formerly a successful jockey, Stephen still rides work today. His hands on approach is undoubtedly a key plank in his ability to improve racehorses and get owners the results they want.

Stephen’s wife Elisha has been a critical part of the success of SV Brown Racing. Fulfilling multiple roles, she is assistant trainer and has managed the business side of SV Brown Racing for many years.

Continuing the family theme, oldest daughter Alana and her partner Chris Nash have just relocated to Victoria and will be based from the Brown's new equine facility at Nagambie, an hours drive from Melbourne. Chris is a very promising young trainer in his own right and ran the Darwin stable after Stephen relocated to Melbourne, whilst Alana is an accomplished rider who knocked up riding winners in the NT.

Additionally, Stephen Jnr is now an apprentice rider in Victoria and is riding winners for his father and others on an increasingly regular basis. Notable for his extra height as a jockey, he is starting to show decent composure in his races and this improvement is being rewarded with extra rides.
