Brown finds a Hidden Gem at Inglis Premier
Trainer Stephen Brown ventured out to Oaklands Junction on Sunday for Day 1 of the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale and came away very pleased with his purchase of a Skilled colt.
Lot 64 in the Catalogue, the colt was knocked down to SV Brown Racing for $40,000.
By freshman sire Skilled, who himself was an outstanding racehorse in Australia winning the Group 1 AJC Champagne Stakes as a 2yo, and then showed his quality by coming back as a 3yo to finish runner up in the Group 1 Randwick Guineas.
This colt is out of the unraced Octagonal mare Camomile, who has already produced the very promising 4yo Lucky Winston, a winner of 4 of his 8 starts in Macau this season and one of the most promising horses in training there.
Brown, a Group 1 winning trainer in Macau, was keen to inspect the yearling half brother to Lucky Winston and liked what he saw.
“He’s a lovely relaxed colt, very athletic and certainly not too heavy ”, said Brown. “I thought the form of the half brother might escape attention and when this colt presented as well as he did I was very keen to get him”.
Brown is keen to offer shares in the yearling to his loyal clients.
“I don’t buy many yearlings, but if I see value I’m happy to buy and offer my owners the opportunity to race a nice horse without breaking the bank”.
Anyone wanting further information on the colt including cost of a share is encouraged to email rohan.hawker@gmail.com or svbrownracing@live.com.au.
