Post D'France wins at Flemington on Australian Guineas Day
Post D’France recorded a richly deserved victory for trainer Stephen Brown in The Hong Kong Jockey Club Trophy Handicap over 1800m at Flemington on Saturday.
Starting at $7 in the $100,000 race, jockey Ben Melham had the 6yo gelding in a handy position just behind the leaders in the run, and he proved far too strong in the straight to defeat Harvey’s True Heart and the Lloyd Williams import Carlo Bugatti.
After the race, trainer Stephen Brown said the win shouldn’t have surprised.
“His form this time in was very good, he was unlucky at Moonee Valley second up when he couldn’t get clear running for much of the last 600m”.
“Ben Melham rode him well, presented him at the right time, and the horse was very strong late against some quality opposition”.
Purchased as a tried horse from New Zealand, Post D’France has now earned in excess of $230,000 for his owners, and Brown said he’d give the gelding the chance to add to his stakes.
“This win will lift his rating again, but he’s a horse who does hold his form so we’ll find another race in the next two to three weeks. I’d love a track with a little more give as I think he appreciates that too”.
