Grizzly Cheers Up at Sale
3yo gelding Grizzly was able to put an unlucky first start behind him and impressively win his maiden at Sale on Wednesday.
After being forced back and wide at Kilmore at his first race start, Grizzly was given a much sweeter run midfield in transit by Mark Pegus to sweep down the outside and win the 3yo & up maiden at Sale over 1200m.
By little known US stallion Brilliance, Grizzly was purchased privately in New Zealand by astute Flemington trainer Stephen Brown.
“He was recommended to me by a friend of mine after a nice trial in New Zealand at the end of last year,” Brown said.
“Not being particularly fashionably bred, we were able to buy him at an affordable price for some existing clients, and we also brought some new guys from Perth into the ownership which is great.”
“Whilst he took a little while to acclimatize since arriving, he’s shown me enough at home to know he can keep improving from here. He’s a very athletic horse, good mover, and we’re just starting to find out a little about him”.
Brown indicated he would likely find a suitable progression for Grizzly in the next few weeks and said he was a horse to follow.
People interested in joining the stable as owners are advised there are a few shares remaining in a lovely Skilled colt purchased cheaply at the recent Melbourne Premier Yearling sale, and one share remains in exciting UK import Yenhaab which is yet to debut in Australia.
